I came out of the whole ordeal feeling like I went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. No, not the Mike Tyson that knocked out fools in the ring so oft they made a video game after him. The other one, the one that bites ears off and spits it back at you. Yeah, in short, tough draft. I suppose it’s partly my own fault though. You know, we’re sort of conditioned in this sport game we play to believe that women aren’t any good. I mean, I’m standing here telling you Lady Thief knows an insane amount about football, and yet I still went into the draft thinking – this will be easier than the last. Sure there were a couple of cupcake players there, and sure they got smoked, but in an auction there only needs to be a few snakes in the grass to make life tough. Couple that with the fact that I’m literally posting my entire playbook on this website (which admittedly is a little bit ignorant to do) and you have the recipe for a rough night.

Notable contenders in this bunch include my father (yes, it’s one of those leagues) who went toe to toe with me in the Super Bowl last year, and a cousin of mine whom used to play in the league I run until I had to boot him due to incessant delayed entry fee payments (so yeah, some bad blood). Oh, and of course the Lady Thief herself. The league is structured with 12 teams, 2 divisions and the lone mistake I made was assuming she used the standard roster settings. Little did I know, she reduced the roster settings by 1 RB. That’s an enormous difference, and one I didn’t realize until about 1/3 the way through the draft.

When we began there were 4 teams delayed from signing in due to technical difficulties. This wouldn’t have been a big deal aside from the 3 other teams in the league that really made them pay for being late. You see, I learned that from these 3 teams that by nominating a kicker right off the bat, you’re guaranteed to have said autobot drafter take the kicker for an obscene “average” price of like $10. So halfway through round one we had three kickers off the board and three pretty angry managers. In my opinion, serves you right for not testing out the software and signing in early.

The first major player to come up for auction was Chris Johnson. The bidding was frantic of course, however I stayed on the sidelines and just watched. To my surprise, he was landed for $74 to none other than my cousin. To put that in perspective, $74 in a 12 team league is equivalent to at least $80 in a 14 team league of the same roster setup. Still, my ceiling on Peterson (which I can now tell you since I safely have him in three leagues) was $90. No, I didn’t want it to get there, but I figured anything above $90 and he’s all yours. So when CJ went off the board at $74, I felt pretty confident that this meant AP would go for less than $74.

The hardest thing about bidding on a top guy, when everyone else knows you want him, is that everyone else knows you’ll pay top dollar for him. I learned this the hard way as both Lady Thief, my dad, and one other team pushed me up to $77 to land Automatic Paydirt. You know you’re playing in a competitive league when your opponents make you pay an uncomfortable amount for a top guy. Well done opponents, well done.

Nonetheless, AP in hand I felt good about my prospects going forward. I knew I had just blown through any chances of landing Moss on this squad as well, since I was looking at needing to fill two more running back spots. Did you catch the mistake there? I only really needed to fill one, not two. Yeah I caught that mistake too, about 20 players later.

I’ll not bore you with the round to round action. It was good don’t get me wrong. Every single guy I have earmarked for a super year was torn from me by greedy bidders. Randy Moss went for $45, Pierre Thomas went for $41, heck even Joe Flacco went for $21. The price on these guys outweighed the benefit I had been looking for (was hoping for Moss in the 30′s, PT in the low 30′s, and Flacco closer to 10). The absolute worst though was Clinton Portis, who was taken for $6. That $6 was $1 higher than my $5 max bid, and went to a team with more excess loot that also reads this blog.

So the final team looks like this:

Palmer / Ryan

Automatic Paydirt

Steven Jackson

Brandon Marshall (hint, hint, hint)

Dwayne Bowe (hint, hint, hint)

Jeremy Shockey (at a $1 steal)

and a great bench of Santana Moss, TJ Housh, Michael Bush, Mike Williams (of TB, bigtime sleeper), Cadillac Williams, and Thomas Jones.

Of course, I’m sure you’re curious who SHE took for a team:

Stafford / Rothlisraper

Turner

Pierre Thomas

Roddy White

DeShaun Jackson

John Carlson

That’s a pretty strong squad. Especially considering she nabbed Esteban Ocho Cinco from me, who will no doubt be starting over D Jax soon enough.

So now for some insights. First up, HER strategy. Of course, she all too familiar with the notion that QB’s aren’t worth as much as RB’s and WR’s. She was also targeting Joe Flacco but at $21, we both asked ‘where’s the value in that pick?’. So she audibled and went with the Stafford/Big Ben combo. I’ve actually seen quite a number of teams doing this and I have to say it’s a solid idea. Stafford has all the tools to have a breakout year this year (though I do not value him above Palmer or Flacco like yahoo and rotowire do!). But more importantly, when Ben is back, she’s set up with a bona fide top 10 Qb. Those two picks cost her a combined total of $4. Those two picks allowed her to steal both PT and Ocho from me. In fact, the PT Bruiser bidding war was fierce between us. You have to picture us both, side by side, laptops in hand, empty pizza box in front of us, not saying a word and just staring at the screen hitting the +$1 button just as time ticks down to 2 seconds repeatedly. Meanwhile the entire chat room is buzzing comments like ‘Domestic Violence Alert!’.

Another insight: stop spending your time preparing for your draft by looking at the top 40 or so guys. The battle is won by those late late picks we make. We all know the Petersons and Johnsons and Breesuseses and Mannings. The difference maker in the season will be those end of the draft snags that we’ll turn into golden 2-1 trade opportunities down the road. Guys that are going for under $4 that fall into this category are Sanatana Moss, Mike Williams, Jerome Harrison, Cadillac Williams (shhhh they just booted Derek Ward from the team), Thomas Jones, Clinton Portis, Ben The Rapist, Donald Brown (Addai is in a contract year), Kenny Britt, TJ Housh, Matt Hasslebeck, Leon Washington, Terrell Owens, Michael Bush and Carson Palmer.

The best thing you can do once you enter that draft room is to start loading up your queue with these guys (and any others you can think of that you like). Pop them in there while the bidding is long and obvious. Have them prepared for when the draft gets late and you’re ready to switch from nominating those you don’t want, to nominating those you do want (around the sub $10 mark).

Anyway, as tough as this was, it’s nothing compared to what’s coming on Monday. I feel like this was a perfect practice run though. I was able to gauge bidding and see who the buzz players are. Still, in a league of 16 guys with many years experience and at least half of them reading this blog, there’s no doubt more prep work to be done.

But you know, one thing THEY will never understand is how small the importance of the draft really is to US. I know my boy AC hears me when I’m saying this. It’s almost guaranteed that he, I, you, all of us will have traded more than half our team by seasons end. That is where the skill comes in. That is how we win. By buying low, by selling high, and by dominating the competition.

What do you have to say?

  • The_Thief

    First!!

  • eric

When you say Mike Williams, do you mean the TB one or the SEA one? Haha. They're both still FA's in my league.

  • The_Thief

tampa bay. Originally the SEA one looked good (still does) but he's more of
a wait n see, the other one looks to be a bona fide sleeper.

  • eric

Haha. Thanks for the quick reply. I really appreciate it. I have another question: why would Addai being in a contract year make Donald Brown more valuable–why not shoot for Addai?

  • The_Thief

If you're the Colts, one of your backs is gonna be askin for more money, an the other is you're first rounder from last year, which one are you gonna give the most work to this year??

Ya feelin me playa? That's what we call a sleeeeeeeeper!

  • eric

Haha. Definitely. Thanks for clearing that up. Drop Addai for Brown? Yes? No? Maybe? ;)

  • The_Thief

You know I'm gonna tell you to work the 2-1 deals before dumpin a guy like that.

  • morskie

So i just drafted (snake) my team for the no-so-serious-but-i-wanna-win-anyway league… 12 team pretty standard. Picked 8th…rnd, (pick #)1. (8) Randy Moss2. (17) Brandon Marshall3. (32) Chad Ochocinco4. (41) Ronnie Brown5. (56) Knowshon Moreno6. (65) Matt Forte7. (80) Carson Palmer8. (89) Clinton Portis9. (104) Brandon Jacobs10. (113) Owen Daniels11. (128) Vincent Jackson12. (137) Dallas13. (152) Matt Hasselbeck14. (161) David AkersI kinda made a mistake with my valuing of RBs too… considering that there's 2 RB slots plus W/R flex, i should have gone with an SJax at #8, so the left me scrambling to get some solid lower tier guys… but at that point i stuck to the rankings and loaded up on STUD WRs… what do you think of the squad?

  • eric

Been sending out the 2-1 trades. Even sent some 3-2 trades. League is full of jerks who won't bite. ;)

  • The_Thief

I think you scrambled well, but I do think u coulda got jax n been better off. Still, great trade bait sittin on this squad

  • The_Thief

Preseason deals are tuff but no worries, browns not goin anywhere.

  • Jeremylk

Just did a snake draft 10 team league started / 8th pick. Ended up with:

    QB Flacco
    RB Mendenhall
    RB Steven Jackson
    WR Ochocinco
    WR Jennings
    WR/RB Michael Bush
    TE Celek
    K Bironas
    Def Dallas
Bench: Portis, Jacobs, Santana Moss, Shockey, Britt, Edwards, Alex Smith

    what do you think?

  • Konglong_Stomp

Very interesting read Thief, thanks for the insights. And for me at least, I like it as it's good prep reading for morskie's league's upcoming draft this week. It definitely won't be as intense as your wife's league's draft, but we got several guys sharing a lot of the same insights in there. Haha it'll be intense no doubt.

  • Hotfire

sup thiefwhat do you think of this trade in the wake of joe schmoe sportswriter talking down beanie wellsi give – i get:steve smith(NYG) – percy harvincadillac williams – beanie wells

  • morskie

K little baseball here… Berkman is off the DL and i have to decide what to do with him…here's my squad…C – VMart, Montero1B – Votto, (VMart)2B – Hill, Ian Desmond3B – Zimm, ARamSS – HanRam, (Desmond)OF – Rios, Kemp, Lee, Mike Stanton, Nyjer MorganI'm thinking i can just Cut Berk since i don't need him for depth… I would have dropped Stanton, but i expect him to come out of his slump, and he seems to be, going 2-4, HR tonight… Also, morgan could get slapped with a 7 game suspension (pending appeal), but i wouldn't fill his spot with a guy like berk anyway…

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/P3COM2U3SCDA3GXZ3LT6ZLVUHU rob j

wait…is she taking notes from u? if so,why would u let her in the league? She can busy in another league. Or is this 4 bragging rights?

  • Biglil

Thief, good all on the later rounds are going to make your team. With that said what do yout hink of Mike Wallace, the WR from Pitt, and Chester Taylor for the bears? Also is Washington going to beat out Forsett?I like the draft. Interesting strategy, but looks like a pretty solid team. Good grab on Bush. That kid is going to go off. You have a lot of guys that you can pedal to get the guys you need.

  • acsparks714

He joined her league, I believe.

  • Ryanai1991

    Thief and Crew,
A guy dropped Jerome Herrison and Sidney Rice. Should I drop Brian Westbrook and Kenny Britt for them? I already have CJ, SJax and TJones as my RBs. As for WRs, I have Brandon Marshall, Ohco5, Garcon, S. Moss and Mike Williams (TB). I am looking for backups and trade bait. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

  • Konglong_Stomp

MJD is kind of a buyer beware, but is this deal too good to pass up? I got a verbal offer for my Randy Moss + Matt Forte = his MJD. I'd have the uber combo of MJD/AP at RB with Clinton Portis/Montario Hardesty as backups, and then WR still wouldn't be too bad at Fitz/Ochocinco/Santana Moss.

  • The_Thief

I like it. Obviously your goal during the season will be to get an upgrade at RB. I'd look now for a team with a solid RB2, an a weak flex (maybe a WR there) and 2-1 offer them bush n Jacobs. I'd love to see you land a Pierre Thomas or benson for ur flex. Keep portis for backup.

  • The_Thief

I think that'll be REALLY intense. Some day, when things with this blog get more streamlined, I'll have to play with you all.

  • The_Thief

I wouldn't deal harvin in there. Try replacing him. He could be big this year. Smith can def go tho.

  • The_Thief

Yeah u got no room for berk.

  • The_Thief

She let me in her league lol. The only notes she takes is gaming who I like. However she genuinely likes PT (swears she didn't know I like him too) an think ocho is HOT lol

  • The_Thief

Wallace yes, Taylor no (he's old dood) an Seattle loves leon.

  • The_Thief

Drop westy for Harrison. Let rice stay.

  • morskie

that would be awesome haha =)

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/DEDM7E3OF77KKYKCQGXLDL6YMI Bla

Hah nice going there man. So this time YOUR guys, actually did go to HIM…or HER… Good read, gonna be fun to follow it. Big Ben got dropped in my 12team few days ago, I scooped him off waivers (#5) and have now Rodgers (bye week 10) and him combo. Thought it was gonna be perfect bait for a tune up in case I line up for playoffs after w10, but there is a slight problem, week 10 is nov 11th, our trade deadline is nov 12th. Keep him, trade him earlier or work a last minute move ?

There is another possible deal in the making which would have me dealing with 2 managers att the same time in order to move Mendenhall, Welker and Felix Jones (+maybe some backup) for Brandon Marshall and Shonn Greene (+something like B.Jacobs). All this because I am not sure about Welkers knee, but I'm not so sold on Shonn either. I'm leaning towards no deal…6pt TDs, 0.5 PPR

  • morskie

Nyjer Morgan is most assuredly not going to be available this weekend (and beyond) for his antics — Appealing 7 game suspension for throwing a ball into the stands, and igniting a bench clearing brawl last night. So i need a run scoring, base stealing OF replacement. here's my choices.Gregor Blanco – KC – at home this weekend against Detroit, bats leadoff, speed aplentyRajai Davis – not leadoff, hasn't had a great season… but he's rajai and he has 40 steals for not batting leadoff (or at all) for most of the season.Roger Bernadina – seems to be a 5 category guy and has been batting 3rd in the Nats lineup. Less steals, but more of everything else.Eric Young, Jr – leading off for the Rox… if they had a home series this weekend i'd probably be all over him. He's last on my list, highlighting the dire straits i'm in lolwho's my best bet for the weekend?

  • golfin14

Thief got a baseball question for ya…I need to drop one of these guys to bring Kinsler back in the lineup…who should I ditch?-Lance Berk-Aaron Hill-Carlos Lee-BJ Upton-Quentin-Beltran-Aramis Ramirez-Derek LeeThanks!

  • morskie

If Berk and Derek Lee are both backups to your main 1B, you can dump one of them… I just ditched berk myself.

  • morskie

i wouldn't give up randy for him until we hear something about this "knee soreness"

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/F2QLQ2ZRXGZOFELM4AZOZEN3QQ Stan S

Hey Thief long long time no talk but im not into baseball.. but now footballs back!!! So I had my first draft last night and it was a snake boo but i had to do it. I had 7th pick and its a 12 person league with all td's 6 pts including qbs. Also half a point for receptions So heres the team: How did i do???Matt SchaubMegatron… have had him ever year.. semi man crushSteve Smith(car)Michael TurnerJavid Bestjermichael finleyTOJustin ForsettLTBrett farvenate washington … picked on accidentLarry JohnsonJulian edelmanNate burlesonvinateribaltimore d

  • Matt

Letting you know thief the reason I think flacco is going for more $ now is Yahoo is running an article on him… sucks I know cause I was hoping for him cheap in my draft sunday but people just eat up the yahoo stuff

  • acsparks714

The Vikings are likely to use a committee of running backs on third down this season, with Adrian Peterson, Albert Young and Toby Gerhart all getting a shot."We've got to find a third-down back," quarterback Brett Favre said. "Are we going to use Toby, Albert or Adrian? One more than the other? I really don't know." The team would like Young or Gerhart to step up, because Peterson's pass protection skills are sub-par, but so far neither player has. The Vikes could be missing Chester Taylor more than they thought.

  • Biglil

Ha, that is hilaious that she thinks Ocho is Hot. Is she watching his reality show diligently?

  • acsparks714

Beat writer Mary Kay Cabot expects Jerome Harrison to start in Week 1 because Montario Hardesty hasn't gotten enough reps in the preseason.Note that Cabot didn't say Harrison will start because he's earned it. Instead, Harrison will likely get the nod simply because Hardesty was injured. It's a reminder that Hardesty is the one that the Browns' coaches want to take command of this committee. A good performance from Hardesty in tonight's preseason finale will go a long way.

  • The_Thief

I agree, mendy seems more certain than shonn. LTs preseason is murkying the waters. I think you'll be trading big Ben at a big profit in week 5 (seems his suspension might b only 3 games)

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

Dang they just slighted A.P. What are they talking about 3rd and long. I know they cant be talking about 3rd and short.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

People eating up these Thief articles too! I am going to have a hard time come Saturday trying to steal "sleepers" Are they really sleepers when everyone else in your league knows they are good.

  • The_Thief

    i like rajai

  • The_Thief

    Brutal Beltran

  • The_Thief

Nate Wash and LJ are WW garbage. Let's work on getting you a better RB2, tho
best could be OK. Overall, it's a B draft, but we'll make deals to create an
A team. By the way, WELCOME BACK!

  • The_Thief

ugh, I swear they read my stuff too. Given that, I may audible to a
    Palmer/Rothlisberger duo.

  • The_Thief

LOL, they'll be runnin on third down with AUTOMATIC PAYDIRT

  • The_Thief

she was all like 'OH I didnt know he had a TV show!', I was like 'sure ya
    didn't'.

You know, if she thought Tom Cruise or George Clooney was hot (she does)
I've got no issue, I could kick their asses. But Esteban?! Man I got nothing
    on him!

  • The_Thief

duly noted, but I think this BEAT writer missed the last 5 games of last
    season

  • The_Thief

In an auction, sleeper has more to do with price than breaking out. They buy
Flacco at $21, we buy Big Ben and his reduced suspension at $4

  • Biglil

I just read that Michael Bush, Oak, has a broken thumb. Not sure what hand. Could have big impact on his and others value.

  • acsparks714

ESPN's John Clayton confirms that Sam Bradford "looks real strong right now" as the Rams' Week 1 starter.A.J. Feeley's injury sealed the deal, if Bradford's terrific performance in St. Louis' third preseason game hadn't already. According to Clayton, Bradford would have to completely tank tonight against Baltimore to lose the job.

  • acsparks714

You better hope they do lol

  • Biglil

That is awesome. Yeh, I hear you on the movie star thing. A bunch of nerds that became famous and your wife digs them, oh well. They got their ass kicked through high school and college, sure another one wouldn't hurt them. Digging an athlete is a little different. They got mucho dinero, their ripped, athletic, and they could kick are ass. I hate them all:) Now, if my wife digs a kicker, bring it on chump!!

  • The_Thief

    Nahh he's fine

  • The_Thief

The Thief also confirms, Bradford is the real deal. Too bad he has no line, no receivers.

  • The_Thief

Ha! Pretty sure she's got the hots for every colt too, including the kicker

  • acsparks714

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that the Seahawks are actively trying to trade T.J. Houshmandzadeh.Good luck. A poor fit for new OC Jeremy Bates' vertical offense, Housh turns 33 later this month and is due a $7 million base salary. The only way Seattle could move him is if Houshmandzadeh agreed to a pay cut. Surely that's not happening because the $7 million is fully guaranteed. Outside of perhaps St. Louis and Cleveland, the Seahawks' receiver corps is shaping up as one of the weakest in the league. Vincent Jackson should still be in their radar.

  • acsparks714

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, it's "believed" the Seahawks are trying to part with T.J. Houshmandzadeh in an effort to clear salary space for Vincent Jackson. It's an honorable idea. The Seahawks are highly unlikely to find a trade partner for Houshmandzadeh, but theoretically could release the declining veteran to get the rest of his contract off the books. They'd still be on the hook for Housh's $7 million guaranteed salary, of course, but Seattle owner Paul Allen has deep pockets. If he wants a better chance to win, he'll do it.

  • The_Thief

Oooooh I hear mr Favre is lookin for a friend

  • The_Thief

Wow they're really not likin housh in Seattle. Duly noted. Hope he lands in a good spot. Good lookin out AC.

PS no kudos for my shout out to u in the post?!?

  • cjcowboyfan

    hey thief nation
trade question, my fourth team, the only one i'm worried, about sent a trade offer of s.jackson/l. fitzgerald for my AP/b.jacobs
i turned it down, but was thinking of sending him an offer of my a.smith/ t.heap/AP/b,jacobs
for hism.ryan/j.witten/s.jackson/r.wayne i'm on the fence with this but leaning on not sending.
    my team is his team
    QB a.smith/- QB j.cutler/k.kolb/m.ryan
    RB AP/c.benson/c.portis/m.barber/r.williams/b.jacobs RB s.jackson/knowson/d.mcfadden
    WR m.austin/d.bowe//lee evans/n.buleson WR r.wayne/c.johnson/l.fitzgerald/ s.smith[gia}/j maclin/v.jackson
    TE t.heap TE j.witten

so, should i send the trade thru, or do you see something els i could do? all comments are welcomed

    TE j.witten

  • Matt

Hey thief…. sorry to bug ya again but I value your opinions…. I took over a dynasty team about a year ago and have very little assets and wont be very good until next year probably… I was thinking of countering an offer what do you think? (I have high hopes for amir and cousins)His offer was I Give rose and ryan anderson I Get cousins and amir johnson MY counter (asking too much?)I give: melo, mbah moute, barnes and dunleavy I get: cousins griffin amir johnson and aldridge

  • The_Thief

He needs a rb. I'd send barber, bowe, Jacobs for Wayne n maclin.

  • The_Thief

I wouldn't sell melo like dat. No way.

  • Matt

k…. what do you think of the rose and anderson for cousins and johnson? I think that amir this year could be easy 16 and 7 and cousins bout 13 and 9….

  • The_Thief

And I think Rose could be an all star. You really like Cousins eh? I dunno. I'd pass for now. But it's your call if ur that hard up for em.

  • Matt

I do like him alot but i think the selling point for me is amir… I watched every game down the stretch when bosh was hurt and he was beastin (and I think that heel be one of the biggest sleepers of the season) I see his career like JO now that he has been given a chance to shine … I do love rose and along with westy melo turner he is a part of the future of my team but acquiring 2 future stars it would be more beneficial for me in the long run

  • acsparks714

    My bad thief, thanks lol.

I would have to agree 110% trades is what makes are teams run. Give us some kids from the WW and I'm sure we could turn that team around.

  • acsparks714

    What do you think about

    I give=I get

    Anquan Boldin+Hines Ward+Matt Ryan=Andre Johnson+Mike Sims Walker+Me picking up Big Ben

  • acsparks714

    Also sent out

    Kellen Winslow+Malcom Floyd=Jermichael Finley

  • acsparks714

The Rams have reportedly pulled out of the bidding for unsigned restricted free agent Vincent Jackson. The Seahawks are still in it, but figure to drop out if they're unable or unwilling to dump T.J. Houshmandzadeh's contract. According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Rams did pursue the idea of acquiring V-Jax, but "do not expect to acquire him." "There are too many moving parts," a Rams source told La Canfora. "That's not something we're pursuing right now."

  • acsparks714

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss confirms that Fred Taylor is expected to be the Patriots' lead back this season.Taylor continued to run with the first team in Thursday night's contest, as he has all preseason. Laurence Maroney didn't even see the field until Tom Brady was out of the exhibition game. Taylor is a poor bet to stay healthy over the course of the season, but he's the Pats back to own early in the year.

  • acsparks714

The Giants started their entire first string in Thursday's preseason finale, and Ahmad Bradshaw was the first tailback on the field.Bradshaw made a nifty run on the third play from scrimmage, evading numerous Patriots including Vince Wilfork for an 11-yard rush. He picked up seven yards on a carry the very next play, and on the same drive took a checkdown 17 yards to get into the red zone. Bradshaw was on the field for the Giants' entire first series. He will start over Brandon Jacobs in Week 1.

  • Blad3

thinking about trying to go after Calvin J. How does CJ and Foster for Matthews and Djax (Or Jennings) sound?

  • acsparks714

Beat writer Jerry McDonald suggests Michael Bush (thumb surgery) could miss "up to a quarter of the season or more."The Raiders aren't providing a timetable. McDonald, after consulting with an orthopedic surgeon, believes Bush is "highly unlikely" to be ready to play in the opener. The doctor advised that 4-6 weeks would be a "best case scenario" for a return from "Bennett's fracture" surgery. As Bush is a running back, it's unlikely that he'll be able to play with a "club" over his hand. Darren McFadden will enter the season as the starter with Michael Bennett as the backup.

  • Dr. Cock and Balls

Yo thief, I have brian westbrook, laurence maroney, and mario manningham on my bench, should I drop any of them for free agents sidney rice, bernard scott, and laurent robinson?

  • Biglil

The Colts, ugh. How does she like all those fat cheese and meat eatin linemen? Get a picture off the net of one of them with their shirt off and your safe on those cats. The kicker to??? I am glad my wife does not watch football. I would be worried. We live way to close to Oakland. She also is in love with Matt McAnoghe. I love it because they report all the time how whacked out that dude is. Yeh, great abs, nice hair, etc.. But, he eats elephant crap and puts monkey nuts on his skin to keep it soft. Who cares what he looks like. He is a nut job.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GZNYKH7L3TD7SYCUAWQJLLTI7M CS

  • The_Thief

I see the disconnect here. Look I hear you about Amir and the potential, that's all good, but I doubt his owner is as high on Amir as you. People oft make this mistake, overpaying when you don't have to. Scan his team over, see what stats he needs, make him an offer for Amir that excludes superstars an send an email telling him how the deal makes him better. Ya feel me?

  • The_Thief

I like it bro. Ink that deal.

  • The_Thief

Careful, Floyd movin up in the ranks

  • The_Thief

As if Belichicky would let anyone be his feature back from that group

  • The_Thief

But Jacobs will start in the red zone lol

  • The_Thief

I like u dealing DJax, I'm hearin he's limping. I'm not sold on Arian but many others are so it's a decent deal.

  • The_Thief

Oh man, I'm battin 1000 here. Last I heard he'd be ready for the first game. I still don't like McFadden, been there done that. Def downgrade bush tho.

  • The_Thief

I'd drop manningham n maroney, grab rice n Robinson if they're the best avail.

  • Anonymous

She is a rabid colts fan. She owns one of jeff Saturdays signed cleats. We watch AFC playoff games in silence (I'm a pats fan).

  • The_Thief

Honestly, I've not done much research aside from football but the top tier is CP3 an Durant an now that collison is on Indy, granger MIGHT get a bump.

  • The_Thief

I'm still in football mode. Soon enuff tho!!

  • The_Thief

Ahhhhhh Adrian Peterson? Seriously, I'm still in football mode with draft coming up Monday. Gimme some more time for basketball. One cheap sleeper I like is Roy Hibbert.

  • grape koolaid

hey thief, here's a look at my team.flaccorice/mendenhallboldin/ochocinco/wardjohn carlsonjanikowskibaltimorebench=j. best, housh, j. harrison, massaquoi, sanchez, thomasreally didn't mean to draft the entire ravens team. what are some upgrades to target? thanks!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_M3VFKQGQQWG3UNL2RW2AYMUNTA Drew Hittner

Absolutely love the kicker trick! Did it myself a few times. Also, when I would have one of the 1st nominations I would attempt something even more devious. There are 2 Adrian Peterson's in the league, but only one is top tier, so I would nominate AP #2 1st. Only worked once for me, but I did the wrong AP go for $55.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/KNFN75VZ6UVPHIMALY3CRMDYFY jimmy j

fingers crossed on that one haha

  • Matt

I hear ya…. I also like hibbert this year … now that murph is gone I think hibbert could be huge as well as millsap anthony randolph

  • acsparks714

Jerome Harrison is likely to be the Browns' clear-cut feature back this year with Montario Hardesty's season threatened by what's believed to be a torn ACL.The Browns have shown little confidence in Harrison as an every-down back, so owners should be sure to grab James Davis too. Still, Harrison will be an every-week RB2 play early in the season. Last year's down-the-stretch star has terrific matchups at Tampa Bay and versus Kansas City to kick off 2010. Harrison will be the ideal sell-high candidate thereafter, with Baltimore, Cincinnati, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh next on the slate.

  • acsparks714

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports Ben Roethlisberger's suspension has been reduced from six games to four, as expected.Big Ben is headed back to Pittsburgh after meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell in New York Friday morning. Though reports indicated that Roethlisberger wanted to push for fewer than four games, the Steelers never believed that scenario to be a possibility. Dennis Dixon is a good bet to start all four games against the Falcons, Titans, Bucs, and Ravens before the Week 5 bye. Roethlisberger will take over in a Week 6 home game against the Browns.

  • acsparks714

I currently have Jerome Harrison and Michael Bush as my two backup RB. I'm thinking of dropping Bush since hes gonna be out for 4-6 weeks.Do I pick upAhmad BradshawThomas JonesLaDanian Tomlinson

  • bandoogiemanz

    Double post. Sorry.

  • The_Thief

That's just plain mean man! I love it!!

  • The_Thief

Try packaging rice n housh for AP. That'd be a steal!!

  • The_Thief

Duhhhh we knew all that lol!

  • The_Thief

Bradshaw, he'll have the most value the quickest.

  • The_Thief

First three rounds are solid, but Floyd n Palmer picked too soon. They should sleep a lil later.

  • morskie
  • bandoogiemanz

Any suggestions who I should pick ahead of them?

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

I saw a guy bid $65 on Adrian Peterson (Sea) ha ha! It works everytime Thief. Not our fault they cant read the fine print lol.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

Haha! Guy are really trying to push this NBA kick. Coaches dont even know who their starters are yet lol.

  • Biglil

Hahahaha, in silence, I love it. So when the Pats won their rings lady thief must have been very upset. Does she wear the cleats during the game for good luck? If she wears them during other extracuricular activity you would have to get a Brady helmet, even it out. I would love to be a fly on the wall when you are forced to watch the Colts. She is probably giving herslef air high fives as you sit in misery. I have assume you crack a smile when they are losing.

  • dubcity

anyone have a spot to fill for a fantasy football league that hasn't drafted yet? mine looks like its gonna fall apart due to lack of interest unfortuunately. thx

  • morskie

aww man… i was looking for 1, but i JUST filled it… I'll let you know if anything opens up…

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

The curse strikes again lol. It better not happen to AP because that would stun a lot of people here.

  • acsparks714

    Unfortunately I'm thinking Randy moss

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

Man Fred Taylor is like 45 yrs old man. Pats have no faith in their running back committee lol.

  • acsparks714

Hey morsk if you still got that spot open I'd like to join. If my it's cool

  • morskie

ack! maan… i JUST filled the spot within the last hour… lol

  • acsparks714

Bradshaw got picked up who should I pick up?

  • morskie

Thomas Jones — he's always outworked his competition to get the workload.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

Yeah too much. Some other sleeper a couple of weeks later.

  • Dr. Cock and Balls

malcom floyds a FA, worth a spot on the bench?

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

Man why is Floyd on waivers first of all? I want in your league because i smell cupcakes lol.

  • dubcity

    no worries man, thx

  • dubcity

what do you guys think the minimum number of people I would need to run my league in a standard Yahoo H2H Points format? right now I only have 7, maybe 8 at the most. I'd like to get 10, but would 8 be ok? Could I just add a few more players per team?If so, what kind of money would you guys recommend for starting auction amount per team?

  • Captainobvious

why does AC just repost player notes from yahoo all the time?

  • its_andrew

Why not? It benefits us all without us having to go check every players notes all the time.

  • morskie

actually they're from Rotowire, a subscription site. So he is sharing news that is usually more insightful and detailed than yahoo, on his dime, so that we don't have to… You should thank him.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

    >:-O.

  • The_Thief

i don't know who was available?

  • Anonymous

rumor has it there's a picture of me after losing a bet with her, wearing a

Manning jersey while we watched a game on facebook. Worst lost bet ever!

  • The_Thief

    agreed

  • The_Thief

absolutely – he's the #1 for Rivers now

  • The_Thief

to keep us in the loop – I love it!

  • The_Thief

seriously, he also does it like ASAP so we get news before 'the street'.

  • The_Thief

maybe he was being ironical – you know, Captain Obvious asking the obvious?

  • Matt

Hey thief… thanks for the advice yesterday just wanted to inform you that I did not accept the rose deal and actually have come out in front because of it I think I have got another offer I will most likely accept I give rose and budinger I get dwill and dj augustin

  • bandoogiemanz

That's where I realized I messed up after a few rounds in. I should have kept a list of available potential picks each round. I will definitely do that during my next mock draft.

  • bandoogiemanz

LMAO! That is so funny!! It makes my league was doing an auction draft.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

Doing a little mediating thief? AC is the man for his updates.

  • The_Thief

    MUCH better.

  • The_Thief

An I'll be here to help!!

  • The_Thief

I guess I was givin capt an out if he wanted to take it. I still remember reading ACs 3am update on CP3. That night goes down in fantasy sports infamy for me!

  • acsparks714

Chargers acquired WR Patrick Crayton from the Cowboys in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2011.Kevin Ogletree will stick as Dallas' fourth receiver. Crayton, 31, isn't a downfield threat, but fits San Diego's revised offense well. Due to issues in pass protection, the Chargers are going to be more of a dink and dunk team, emphasizing possession-slot receivers like Crayton and Legedu Naanee while relying heavily on Antonio Gates over the middle. Crayton can also return punts. He's not on the fantasy radar, but should help the Chargers.

  • morskie

There goes AC… posting useful knowledge again… Geez AC! why! WHY, I SAY! ;-) I like Crayton to SD… he's good for a matchup play as he can drop 120/2td on you as easily as a goose egg. He certainly wasn't gonna get anything in the Bid D offense.I really hope VJax finds a home tho… his talent would be sorely missed from the player pool.

  • acsparks714

After speaking with Brandon Jacobs Friday morning, coach Tom Coughlin insisted that the Giants were still a "multiple running back" team."Nothing has changed," said Coughlin. "Brandon is as healthy as he’s ever been prior to start of season … So we're looking forward to the opportunity to play with a multiple running game and the ability to use our power back in combination with Ahmad and Danny Ware." Bradshaw has cemented his role as the "starter," but it may be premature to label him as a true feature back. Jacobs is going to stay heavily involved.

  • acsparks714

This as a Giants fan kills me, the Giants must be forgetting how awesome Brandon Jacobs was when he was healthy. For those of you who don't know Jacobs injured his knee in last years opener and played with the injury all year long. From February 5th 2010"Brandon Jacobs revealed Friday that he injured his knee in the Giants' 2009 opener and played through it for the entire year.He had the knee scoped last month. This likely explains the 27-year-old's severe decline in production, and perhaps his surprisingly low usage after GM Jerry Reese promised last offseason that Jacobs would be the team's clear featured back. Consider Jacobs a decent buy-low in keeper leagues."1089 yards on 219 attempts 5 YPC and 15 TD in 2008-09.I mean the dude averaged 5 yards per carry. What more do they want outta a RB?

  • The_Thief

This helps open the field for Floyd too.

  • The_Thief

The Giants organization is clearly fantasy unfriendly

  • acsparks714

I offered this guy Kellen Winslow+TJ Housh/Malcom Floyd/Hines Ward=Jermichael Finley. He counters with Jermichael Finley+Jeremy Maclin=Anquan Boldin. I'm thinking no, what do you think of this counterWinslow+Matt Ryan+Green Bay Defense=Finley+Eli Manning+49ers Defense?

  • The_Thief

    I think u can get j mike +1 for boldin n that's REAL tempting

  • golfin14

any word on TJ Houjamama and if/when he will get picked up? I drafted him on my squad…

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/V5JT2FFLWEQK73GZX4JQAVEEBE qwan

Man my son was on his way the same night he delivered that news. And i remember watching my Bulls the same time he messed up that knee.

  • Christomir

It's not from Yahoo, it's from Rotowire. Yahoo actually repost them from Rotowire too, but Aaron does it earlier ;)

  • The_Thief

No word yet but I'm monitoring the Seahawks. My thoughts: if they grab no other WR, rheum they're screaming at us to grab mike Williams off ww's.

  • The_Thief

    =)
