Fantasy Baseball’s Top Juicers for the 2011 Season thumbnail

Yeah that’s right, it says Juicers. I’m not looking to get into the specifics of exactly what’s being taken these days. After all, we know MLB finally put in a serious ban against anabolic steroids and to the best of our knowledge, that ban has held up. Nonetheless, there’s been a few too many resurgent [...]

When to Trade Away a Potential Keeper thumbnail

If you play in a keeper league setup, no doubt you’re often faced with the decision of trading away a key player that you got real cheap during the draft. Thus, on top of his current value to your squad, he’s also sitting on untapped future value for the next season. Of course, on the flip side, because you paid so little for him at the draft, there remains a cloud of uncertainty surrounding his ability to maintain the current pace through the end of the year. Let’s dig a little deeper into this question and see if we can’t unearth some clues to make it easier.

It’s a Big Buy Low Bonanza! thumbnail

Let the floodgates open. We’re officially halfway through the month of March and no doubt there’s managers in your league who will ‘all of a sudden’ be interested in making a deal. In my own league, after a month and a half of silence, Carl Crawford’s owner is finally coming to the table. Even though the season is merely a quarter over, the pressure of sitting in last or close to last is finally sinking in. So I came up with a nice selection of players at each position ripe for the plucking.

Social media is killing the art of a real fan: Bandwagon fans ensue thumbnail

There’s about 45 seconds left in game five of the Eastern Conference Semi-finals. LeBron James steals the ball from another Boston Celtic botched possession, throws down an exclamation point, and a water bottle smashes off my floor. My first reaction was: holy sh*t, my girlfriend is going to kill me, water just exploded everywhere. My second reaction: it’s cool because I’m not going to say a word the rest of the night anyway, because I’m that pissed and it’d probably lead to more problems anyway. I’m just going to clean this up, change the channel, and pretend that I’m not this emotionally invested in the Celtics. The problem, though? I am.

Advanced Baseball Statistics Don’t Belong in Fantasy thumbnail

As a quant, there’s nothing I enjoy more than digging into numbers. Correlations, deviations, spreads, I’m a fan of it all. But somewhere along the way, the sport of Fantasy Baseball snagged some advanced statistics from the sport of Baseball itself, and proceeded to warp their true purpose. More and more I’m reading articles written with a fantasy baseball purpose, yet quoting metrics for the sport itself. I’m here to set the record straight.

And Then He Booted Me From The League! thumbnail

I honestly never thought I’d see the day where it would happen, but over the weekend I was booted from a league. Throughout my entire ‘career’ playing fantasy sports I’ve always held high values such as fair play, competition, and league integrity. The members of my own league have rewarded me both with praise for running a fair league and by always coming back for more. So how in the world did a guy like me get booted from a league? It’s actually a pretty funny story.

Inside The Ranking of Fantasy Baseball Players thumbnail

To some, it must seem like I sit behind a crystal ball every evening, muttering some strange incantations en route to delivering updated seasonal projections and rankings for each player throughout the year. To others, the process isn’t quite arcane, but the details are still somewhat blurry leaving you with many questions. While still keeping my really special trade secrets hidden, this post aims to unveil the inner workings of the Player Rankings tool to make sure you understand what you’re seeing, have an idea how it works, and most importantly, can use it to your fullest advantage

Meat and potatoes. We’re finally getting into the meat and potatoes portion of the fantasy baseball season. With April sitting in the rear view mirror and the trade deadline well away on the horizon, it’s time to get down and dirty with some shopping for talent. Last month, most of the players I highlighted were serious marquee names off to a slow start. They’re tougher to snag, but worth the investment. Today I’ll focus on some easier targets that will be well worth the price.

The Perfect Way To Play Fantasy Baseball thumbnail

This one goes out to all the commissioners out there, who struggle every season with little tweaks here and little tweaks there trying to get things just right. Of course, that never seems to happen as there’s always (at least) one guy who complains about one flaw in the rules that (at least) one other [...]

A Fantasy Baseball Manager’s Worst Enemy thumbnail

Over the last year and a half, I’ve led the charge against the stupidest rule in fantasy sports: the veto. I’ve written article after article covering everything from why it’s unfair (because it leaves the final decision in the hands of those who have no reason to allow it to process) to why it’s unnecessary [...]
