There you are, sitting on a couple of players you snagged off the waiver wire early on in the season and they’ve really panned out. But for some reason, every trade offer you send gets returned with the general message of: No I don’t want players you grabbed off the waiver wire. There’s two issues at work here that we need to address to be sure your offers are set to win: you’re risk averse and you’re too greedy. Let me show you how it’s really done.

If only we had unlimited bench spots on our fantasy baseball team, then we’d be able to hold every single player we like. Of course, some leagues do allow (nearly) unlimited bench spots, but this post speaks to the larger majority of us out there who constantly have to make the choice between who to keep on the roster and who to drop back into the pool. I’m here to help make that decision easier for you.

Easily the most overlooked position in fantasy baseball is the middle reliever. In general, they don’t get many wins, hardly rack up the strikeouts, and given the meager amount of innings they pitch, their contribution to your team’s ERA and WHIP seems meaningless. So why am I going to spend an entire post covering three middle relievers from 2010 and one from 2011? Because there’s a game-play glitch that turns them into a seriously beneficial asset. Check it out…

There’s two things that drive the value of a fantasy baseball player on your team. The first is breadth – how many categories will he contribute in for my squad. All else aside, if you take two hitters with identical stats, yet only one of them steals bases, the base stealer will be the more [...]

Believe me, I feel your pain. There you are, sitting down 0-2 on the young fantasy baseball season. You drafted a stacked line-up of hitters, took some fliers on pitching, and thus far nothing seems to be going right. Some of your hitters aren’t producing consistently, or have been injured, or both. Your staff is full of question marks and it just got worse with Kyle Drabek getting tattooed by the Yanks Tuesday night. Now you’re looking at 0-3 on the season and you’re ready to capitulate and deal off top hitting for more pitching, any pitching. This is your friendly Thief reminder…..don’t.

In the last post, Dubcity spoke about some advanced baseball statistics you can use to delve into your fantasy baseball players. Building off that theme, today I’ll discuss one of the most overlooked sources of information on players and discuss how you can use it to your advantage. What’s nice about this source is that it’s free to access, easy to understand, easy to manipulate, and it’s nearly a guarantee that your opponents don’t take advantage of it.

Not everyone is a math wiz. Most people hate math actually. But why do people hate math so much? Well, it’s funny you should ask. In my opinion, it’s usually because people suck at it. The people who are good at math understand the concepts better than those who don’t. Those who focus too much on the numbers and not enough on the concepts or rules of mathematics often struggle. Numbers fluctuate, concepts don’t. Just like the Thief preaches about a player’s abnormally high or low numbers, baseball statistics can fluctuate, but the “concept” or mean of those statistics often stays the same from year to year.

Believe me, no one wanted to write you a proper Buy Low / Sell High post for the new fantasy baseball season than me. I mean, I’ve literally been sitting here watching some of the early slumps and salivating over those deals we’re about to lock down. But, we must remember how important patience is and how important timing is to the whole process. The hype train has only now begun ramping up for certain players, these four in particular…

Can’t get enough fantasy baseball these days? Are you crying yourself to sleep because you drafted Manny Ramirez? Do you wake up in the middle of the night with the sweats wondering if you should’ve added Willie Bloomquist or not? It’s ok, we know how you feel. And lucky for you, I’ve compiled a short list of sources to talk you through the season.

I’ll tell you what they both have in common, they’re both a couple of chokers. We’re talkin worst of all time, Greg Norman-esque, make-Scott-Norwood-proud type of chokers here. For Rory, it was a disgusting mental breakdown on Sunday of the masters that led to an 80 which is such a bad score even I can hit it. But for Chris Paul, that namby pamby little princess in New Orleans, it was much worse. For the second season in a row Chris Paul completely choked in the fantasy basketball playoffs. Here’s the dirt on ole chuckleface Paul and the rest of the Flamers and Lamers during the 2011 fantasy basketball playoffs.
