Which of the Statistics is Most Valuable? thumbnail

It’s a pretty simple question: Which of the statistical categories is the most valuable for your league? Is it more difficult to find players who hit a lot of home runs, or players who drop a lot of three pointers? I find this to be one of the single most important questions to have the answer to when entering a fantasy season. It drives much of my player acquisition focus for the year. So let’s take a look at the most valuable categories for Fantasy Baseball 2011, and check on those we highlighted for the current Fantasy Basketball season as well.

It’s Time To Shift Our Strategy thumbnail

Alright, the NBA had their trade deadline, now it’s our turn. Standard leagues across the globe have until March 3rd to ink their deals (give or take). What’s important now is to recognize the humongous shift in strategy that one needs to employ in all moves vs. earlier in the year. Let’s take a look at the three most important strategical shifts you need to be thinking about.

At first I was like “Whoa! This is the most exciting NBA trade deadline in a long time”. That was early yesterday. As the hours have worn on, as more deals have been inked, as more players have been shipped to places unthinkable, as more of my players lost their nice cozy secure roles, the excitement faded into agony followed by exhaustion. One word keeps coming to mind: Carnage. Pure Carnage. Aight, let’s talk.

I know one thing for certain, I’ll never play in a fantasy basketball league with Donnie Walsh. The deal he just pulled off with the Nuggets, sending over a big bag of dump for one of the league’s top scorers, was masterful. Without doubt Walsh deserves the Thief Nation award for the best Trade Package Pillaging. OK, enough with the platitudes, let’s discuss the fantasy impact.

Capitalizing On Their Mistakes Pt. 4: Comparing Averages thumbnail

What if I told you that nearly every single provider of fantasy sports player rankings out there lacked one major component rendering them virtually useless. Suppose I went on to say that because I do have this key component in my ranking system, users will be able to grab superstar players in their league for a fraction of their true cost. Would you believe me? What if I prove it?

How much are you willing to pay for Albert Pujols in your upcoming fantasy baseball draft? More importantly, how much are your opponents willing to pay for him? And what of keepers, how can you know if the price you paid for a player makes him a valuable keeper or not? This post aims to point [...]

Capitalizing On Their Mistakes Pt. 2: Per Game Stats thumbnail

In yesterday’s post I showed you how one of the most famous and followed fantasy sports columnists was willfully misleading his readers with regards to player ranks. Today, I’m going to go one step further and show you how the largest sports outfits in the galaxy are willfully misleading followers with respect to player ranks. Again, the goal here is to alert you to these mistakes so you can avoid them and at the same time capitalize on those who don’t.

With the 2011 Fantasy Baseball season just around the corner, I thought this an opportune time to discuss some drafting pointers that are applicable to all fantasy sports. Specifically, I’m going to break down three of the most common mistakes perpetuated by other websites that give draft day advice. My goal is to get you to avoid making these errors, and instead capitalize on those who do.

Some Players You Buy Low and Some You Don’t… thumbnail

Yesterday afternoon a reader asked me what was the first article I had ever written on this site. It was nice to reminisce about the early days of Thief Nation, and enjoy how far we’ve come. But inside that post I noticed some concepts that I’ve forgotten over the year. These concepts revolve around the idea of when not to buy low on a player. So for today’s post I’ve dug up four players you DO want to buy low on, and four more you DON’T want to buy low on.
