At this point in the season, you should (particularly if you’re using the Team Analyzer) have a good idea of where your teams weaknesses are. Unfortunately, a flat out monster trade isn’t always a feasible option to address trouble areas, leaving you searching for either a waiver wire player or a player that can be bought pretty cheaply from an opponent. Let’s take a look at some of the better ‘cheap option’ players out there, or as I like to call them: The Specialists.

As we cross the halfway mark in the NBA and inch ever closer to the trade deadline, our window of opportunity to get our teams in a position to win it all shrinks. So with that, I’d like to discuss the four steps everybody needs to take in order to put your team in a position to close this season out a victor. Oh, and with step three, I’ll introduce my latest and greatest free tool to manage your team.

As annoyingly cliché as it has become, the NFL once again proves to fans that offense fills the stadium while defense wins the championship. Sunday’s AFC and NFC championships featured four teams which can be found in the top six of fewest points allowed. In two weeks we head to the Super Bowl featuring the #1 and #2 teams for fewest points allowed. Couple this with the fact that two of the league’s most revered quarterbacks will face off and you’ve got the fixins for an epic battle. Let’s break down the matchup…

The strategy of punting a category in fantasy basketball is as old as the game itself. In short, to punt a category means to purposefully ignore your players abilities in this area in order to focus elsewhere. The idea is that by ignoring one area, you can pick up players who offer great value everywhere else, to build a solid Head to Head team. But just how risky of a strategy is it?

Those of us familiar with the Head to Head format of game play in fantasy basketball are also quite familiar with the different strategies people use when the playoffs arise. Today, reader Clive from the U.K. has mailed in a guest post to discuss two strategies in particular that he likes to employ, and has been gracious enough to create a playoff schedule for Thief Nation (thanks Clive!) too. Curious as to what the strategies are? Well, take a look!

More than drafting, more than waiver wire play, more than roster management; trading is the key to victory in every fantasy sports league. Why? Because it’s nearly impossible to draft a flawless team and even less likely that you can fill all your teams holes via the wire during the season. Only through trading can a manager harness the ability to cash some of his strengths to cover the weaknesses. But therein lies the rub. How do you know if you’re getting a good deal?

Man, it’s getting tougher and tougher to find solid fantasy basketball buy low targets. It makes you rummage through that list on the homepage and thank goodness you took advantage where you could. Well if you didn’t, I’ve dug up two nice buy low players to sink your teeth into and I’ll even sprinkle in a sell high as well. For the buy low players, the focus is on bigs with one that offers traditional stats while the other goes the nontraditional route. For the sell high player, well, let’s just say it pains me to call up this one…

Have you ever asked yourself ‘What good is a player ranking system that’s based solely on what a player has done to date, as opposed to what he’s expected to do?’. I mean as fantasy sports players, we derive zero value from seeing how a players past performance stacks up against the competition. It’s what he will do in the future that matters to us. Moreover, how are players even ranked in the first place? Let’s get to answering those questions…

We’re having quite the season here in Thief Nation aren’t we? Just about all the buy lows we’ve discussed this season have officially turned it around with this latest surge by Aaron Brooks and the 180 Jim O’Brien pulled (who called that one!). But in order to truly be a thief, in order to make sure we’re always ridin the hot hand, we gotta cash in some of those solid early calls. Let me explain why and offer up a buy low player to spend the profits on.

That’s right, a code of ethics! Don’t sit there and tell me that your workplace needs a 1000 page Code of Ethics tomb designed to make sure Johnny is fully aware that it’s ‘not cool’ to dry hump Becky while she’s bent over the copy machine printing out memos, but your league doesn’t need one to make sure Ford isn’t making backroom deals with Tommy to snag Hanley Ramirez and deliver a championship! Right, so let’s discuss what needs to be In The Code…
