The Thief’s Credo is a list of guidelines to take you through the fantasy season. They highlight the most common mistakes made by players and explain why you want to avoid these pitfalls. For instance, you never, ever want to sell low on a player. Doing so leaves you with a new player that has a much lower talent level, and leaves you out of the production that will arise when the poorly performing player rebounds.

Fantasy Basketball managers often will avoid certain players throughout the season, or will trade them away for less than full value, because they believe the player is an ‘injury risk’. In other words, they believe the player has a high probability of getting hurt this year. But can we really predict if a player will get injured?

There’s only a handful of times during an NBA season where a bona fide top 5 player falls down to the status of ‘buy low’, yet today we have one. The Miami Heat have been so dysfunctional this season, that every slip they make it amplified 1000 times in the media, causing the negative hype on this player to reach extreme levels. Just what we need to do a little thievin.

Continuing on with the series: building a perfect team, this post summarizes the qualities, quantities and even offers some names for the ideal players you want on your fantasy basketball roster. Then we move on to the specialists. Specialists are those players who focus on one sole part of the game, 3′s or boards or blocks, offering above average stats for your team. Because they don’t offer much elsewhere, these players tend to get overlooked by other managers, who are unaware of how to build the perfect team.

Yesterday, I recommended managers go out and buy low on David Lee and Amare Stoudemire following their slow starts. Unfortunately, that advice was a little too good, as both broke out in a big way last night. So I’m back with two new buy low options with some time to get the deal done.
